The Kia Concept EV2 offers a glimpse into a future production model, showcasing innovative features. However, its compact size might prevent its sale in the American market.
Introducing the Kia Concept EV2
The Kia Concept EV2, with its unique name, presents an appealing design reminiscent of a cute puppy. Unfortunately, its small dimensions mean it’s unlikely to be available in the United States. Despite this, a production version of this small electric SUV is planned for release in other markets around 2026.
Powertrain and Performance Expectations
Consider the EV2 concept as Kia’s take on the Hyundai Inster, another compact and distinctive vehicle not offered in the U.S. While specific details about the EV2’s electric powertrain are scarce, the production model is expected to draw inspiration from the Inster’s configuration. The Inster boasts a maximum output of 113 horsepower and 108 pound-feet of torque when equipped with the larger 49.0-kWh battery, providing an estimated range of 187 miles.
Exterior Design and Unique Features
As Kia’s smallest EV, the EV2’s design echoes that of its larger counterparts. It features vertical front lighting elements similar to those on the upcoming EV4 sedan and EV9 three-row SUV. The EV2 also incorporates Kia’s “Star Map” lighting, which manifests as illuminated details on the vehicle’s front panel. Geometric patterns on the glass and wheel arches further enhance its visual appeal. Distinguishing features of the EV2 concept include the absence of a center pillar and the presence of rear-hinged back doors, also known as coach doors. While these elements may not make it to the production version, they add to the concept’s allure.
Innovative Interior Design
The Concept EV2’s interior stands out with its unique features. The inclusion of front bench seats adds a nostalgic touch. Furthermore, the front bench is mounted on a track, allowing users to slide it backward and fold the rear seats away, creating ample space for relaxation. Kia suggests that occupants can even sit on the flat floor, although this may be more practical for individuals of shorter stature.
Technology and Comfort
The dashboard features a tablet-style display, consistent with current Kia models. The concept includes a distinctive steering wheel with a melted appearance. The dashboard’s fabric material, reminiscent of the BMW iX, and the uniquely colored metal surface on the bottom section enhance the interior’s aesthetic. Kia has equipped the EV2 with portable speakers, making on-the-go karaoke a possibility.
Communication Features
Another intriguing concept is the message lighting, which allows users to display text messages through the windows.
