Independent digital artist Sugar Chow, known online as @sugardesign_1, recently published an unofficial CGI preview that lays out the upcoming sedan in several color options, wheel designs, and brake caliper finishes. The renders lean on recent Bimmerpost spy shots and uncamouflaged prototypes spotted around Munich, offering the closest look yet at what production will deliver when the car reaches dealerships in 2027.

Front Fascia and Bodywork

The G50 trades the split-headlight look of the current G20 for a cleaner, more horizontal face. The kidney grille is now a wide glass panel that integrates directly with slim dual-arrow LED headlights, creating one continuous band across the nose. This unified front fascia drops the vertical chrome slats that defined previous 3 Series generations in favor of a smoother, EV-inspired look. The side profile keeps a long hood, a fast roofline, and a sharp Hofmeister kink. Sugar Chow’s preview also keeps the door handles flush and functional, which is closer to production reality than the concept-style hardware BMW has shown on earlier Neue Klasse studies.

Platform Differences from the Electric i3

While the styling is shared with the Neue Klasse i3 sedan, the combustion G50 rides on an updated CLAR platform rather than the dedicated EV architecture used by its electric sibling. This allows the G50 to retain a longer nose and extended wheelbase, proportions needed to package a longitudinal inline-six engine under the hood. The result is a sedan that looks nearly identical to the i3 from the outside but splits off mechanically underneath. The same CLAR-derived underpinnings will eventually support the G84 M3, due in 2028 with both gas and electric drivetrains, giving BMW flexibility across the compact executive segment.

M350 xDrive: The New Top Trim

At launch, the top consumer variant is the M350 xDrive, a name that drops the traditional “i” suffix BMW now reserves exclusively for electric models. It runs a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six rated at 443 horsepower, paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and xDrive all-wheel drive. Quad exhaust tips sit at the rear, and BMW has already logged final summer testing miles at its Miramas facility in southern France, where the prototype worked through hot-weather dynamics validation. The M350 sits one step below the full M3, which retains its standalone status in the lineup for now.

Production Schedule and Reveal

The G50 breaks cover officially before the end of 2026, just months after the electric i3 sedan opens its European order books. Production kicks off at Dingolfing in November 2026, with global sales and deliveries starting in the first half of 2027. This synchronized timing puts both powertrains on sale within months of each other. The G50 joins a growing Neue Klasse roster that includes the NA5 iX3, the NA0 i3 sedan, and the next-generation X5 mid-size luxury crossover.
