In the world of Porsche, innovation and customization know no bounds. While the German automaker has a reputation for creating some of the most refined sports cars on the market, independent builders are also making waves by pushing the limits of what these machines can achieve. One of the standout projects in the Porsche tuning scene is the Porsche 928 Monolite Project, a rally-ready off-road marvel designed by Mexican racing driver and car customizer Fercho Urquiza.
A Visionary Porsche Customization
Urquiza’s journey into the world of Porsche began in his teenage years, which led him to establish Essen Garage in Querétaro, Mexico, a shop focused on Porsche restoration and custom builds. The Monolite Project is the result of over two years of meticulous work, transforming a 1980 Porsche 928 S grand tourer into a rugged off-roading beast.
The transformation of this classic Porsche involved more than just mechanical upgrades. The rear of the 928 S was converted into a pickup, creating a unique and functional bed large enough to carry two spare tires—essential for any off-road rally adventure. This project combines classic elegance with the capabilities needed for the toughest terrain.
Rally-Ready Features and Custom Components
One of the key highlights of the Porsche 928 Monolite Project is its extensive list of custom features designed for off-road performance. A handcrafted roof rack and brush bar, complete with a quad spotlight setup and a recovery jack, are just the beginning. This bespoke design allows the car to carry everything from bicycles to water skis, making it the ultimate all-terrain vehicle.
A WARN 10,000lb winch integrated into the custom front bumper ensures that the car can handle any challenge on the trail, while a quarter-inch skid plate provides essential protection for the car’s driveline components. The front and rear fenders have been widened and flared, accommodating larger tires that further enhance the car’s off-road capabilities. The vehicle now sits on a raised suspension with Kumho all-terrain tires, adding both functionality and style to this one-of-a-kind Porsche.
Performance and Power Under the Hood
At the heart of the Porsche 928 Monolite Project is a fully rebuilt 5.4-liter V8 engine paired with a manual gearbox, delivering both power and precision. This setup not only provides the raw power necessary for off-road racing but also ensures an engaging driving experience on any surface.
Custom Rally Interior
Inside, the Porsche 928 Monolite Project is designed with high-performance racing in mind. The interior features a full roll cage, OMP racing seats with five-point harnesses, and Alcantara leather upholstery, ensuring both safety and comfort during high-speed rally runs. The MOMO steering wheel, custom fluorescent yellow floor mats, and flocked dash contribute to the car’s sporty aesthetic.
The Porsche 928 Monolite Project also includes modern tech features like the Porsche Classic stereo, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and GPS, alongside Focal speakers for an immersive driving experience. A bespoke titanium exhaust adds an aggressive engine sound, completing the car’s unique character.
A Unique Porsche on Display
The Porsche 928 Monolite Project is currently part of the Hot Wheels Legends Tour 2023, showcasing this remarkable creation in major cities across the world. With its combination of engineering prowess, rally-ready features, and Porsche’s timeless design, the Monolite Project is a testament to what happens when creativity and performance intersect.
By focusing on both aesthetic beauty and off-road functionality, the Porsche 928 Monolite Project has redefined what a Porsche can be. It serves as a perfect example of the innovative potential within the Porsche customization community and the endless possibilities for performance and style.
