1959 Chrysler Scimitar Town Car Phaeton Heads to Mecum Monterey 2026
The 1959 Chrysler Scimitar Town Car Phaeton is an experimental concept car designed by Brooks Stevens for the Olin Mathieson Chemical Corporation to demonstrate the structural and corrosion-resistant capabilities of anodized brushed aluminum. Handcrafted by Karosseriewerk Reutter in Stuttgart on a 1959 Chrysler New Yorker chassis, it features a 413 cubic-inch Golden Lion V8 producing 350 horsepower and a unique transformable roof system with three configurations. The vehicle debuted at the 1959 Geneva Motor Show before touring the United States, then spent decades separated across private collections and museums. Finished in original black and silver livery with 4,796 miles on the odometer, the Town Car Phaeton is scheduled as a featured lot at Mecum Monterey 2026 from August 13 to 15 at the Del Monte Golf Course in Monterey, California.
