Stellantis has recently secured two patents under the Jeep brand, emphasizing its dedication to off-road capabilities. These patents detail innovations for a rooftop tent tailored for the Jeep Wrangler and an off-road trailer utilizing authentic Jeep components.
Innovative Jeep Wrangler Rooftop Tent
Unlike conventional rooftop tents that need extra roof racks for installation, Jeep’s patented tent offers a streamlined design. It replaces the Wrangler’s factory removable roof panels, utilizing their original mounting locations. This smart design minimizes added height and allows campers to easily access the tent from inside the vehicle. The tent’s aerodynamic profile also helps maintain decent fuel efficiency.
When fully set up, the tent includes an optional awning for enhanced protection from the elements. An extendable floor space further increases the tent’s usable area.
Rugged Off-Road Trailer with Jeep DNA
Jeep’s second patent focuses on an “Off-Road Capable Trailer,” primarily designed for the Gladiator pickup, although adaptable to other Jeep models. This trailer incorporates original parts directly from production Jeeps, enhancing its durability and off-road performance.
The patent documentation indicates that the trailer may feature suspension and body parts similar to those found on production Jeeps. In some configurations, the trailer could even use the same axles and tires as the production vehicle. Traditionally, trailers have lower ground clearance and are meant for smoother surfaces.
Potential Release
The timeline for these products is uncertain, but these patents signal exciting developments for Jeep enthusiasts.
